Take me out to the ball game!
We just got to go on a most exciting family excursion...to the Cleveland Indians Stadium for a behind the scenes tour! It was fun for our girls as well as Scott and I, and we learned so much about how things work at Progressive field.
We started our tour by going to the press box. The most interesting thing we learned there is that the newspaper writers get to sit in the front row and everyone else in the 2nd and 3rd rows since newspaper was the first way baseball news was reported. What an excellent way to pay tribute and respect to the good ol' paper writers!
Next, we headed to the visiting team's locker room. We were told that this is where they hang out for most of the time they're in Cleveland. THey have HUGE lockers (see Jaden below lying in one!) where they keep their gear, leather couches to lounge on while playing with the provided video games or watching the provided movies, a fully stocked bathroom (the baseball players don't even have to pack shaving cream or deoderant--all is provided while on the road!) and a fully stocked kitchen for snacking in between games. The players sleep at one of the two nicest hotels near the stadium (the Ritz is one of the two!) and all meals are catered by the finest Cleveland restaurants from Blue Pointe Grill to the Chophouse. The moment the players are done playing their game they take off their dirty uniforms and the Cleveland laundry staff washes them and puts them into their locker to be ready for the next game. I'd like to have a stay at this place--aren't they pampered!?!?
It was a very good day and as you can see, we learned lots about how things operate at the stadium. I would definitely go back and I would love to be able to have the same behind the scenes types of tours at the Cavs arena and the Browns stadiums!

Finally, we visited one of the ten dugout suites which are leased for 10 years at a time for over a million dollars--whew!! When sitting in the dugout suite, you are actually closer to home plate than the pitcher. We enjoyed watching a high school game that was taking place while we were in the stadium from our excellent seats. It would be awesome to see the major league players from here!
