Bristol at 5 months
I am SO behind on these posts, but aiming to be caught up by tomorrow afternoon. Bear with me as I don't want to skip posting these! More fun posts coming too :)
Bristol, on Sunday September 4th you turned FIVE months old! Mommy is pretty behind on posting this, but you'll never know :) Thanks to your first year calendar and the notes I write down from time to time about what you're up to, this post will be the same as if I wrote it on the 4th of September!
Since there is no 5-month check-up at the doctor, we don't know exactly how much you weigh or how long you are this month. We're thinking 15-16 lbs though and you're probably up to 26 inches long. You definitely had a grown spurt right around 4 1/2 months old.
You wear size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothes. You are our first baby to wear clothing that matches your age for this long. We'll see if that continues or if you'll start growing fast like your big sisters did.
You are taking 5 bottles each day, each with 5 oz of milk. You typically eat at 7am, 10am, 12:30pm, 4pm and 7pm. You almost never leave a single drop of milk in your bottle at each feeding, though you don't seem to want anymore than 5 oz at a time.
You tried rice cereal for the first time on 8/5 and now that you're eating cereal once a day along with your 5 bottles a day you're getting chubbier! I try to give you cereal with your 10am bottle, but when that doesn't work out for some reason you're fine having it later in the day.
We have realized that we can only use enfamil formula with you. During the past month you were fussy and constipated as you drank similac. Once we switched back to enfamil you were just fine. I guess we can't alternate brands like we did with your sisters!
You're sleeping pretty well overall, though as your naps have become better, your night time sleep has become a little trickier. You are rolling over in your crib now and each time, you cry. A few nights you were up at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5am crying! No fun for Mama and Dada!! All we have to do is roll you back over and you'll go back to sleep...but an hour later you're rockin and rollin again, then fussing because you don't know what to do on your belly.
Overall, your night time sleep is usually from 7pm to 7am...it's just that sometimes it's not a continuous stretch of sleep :) You sleep in your crib a lot more, though sometimes you're in your cradle still. It makes me nervous that you're moving around more so if we want you in our room anymore we're going to have to set up your pack n play.
Between your rolling over and not having a good fitting swaddle blanket (you're right in between sizes now) we gave up swaddling this month. Mommy's friend Lindsay gave us a swaddle sleep sack to try with you, but you mastered rolling over in it the first night we tried it. So no more swaddle for you! At first we had some tough nights, but you are doing better now.
By mid-month you decided you were okay with sleeping on your belly, and now as soon as we lay you down you turn right over and go to sleep. It makes Mama a little nervous, but since you can lift your head so well and can roll over I try not to worry.
Not only have you mastered rolling in your bed, but you actually roll over and over now across the room. It's fun to watch you use every muscle in your whole tiny body to roll over towards a toy, to get under the coffee table or to get to Mom or Dad. You are definitely "on the move!"
You are obsessed with your feet--I mean, OBSESSED! You grab them and chew on them constantly. I've always thought the phase of babies eating their toes was so cute and you're no exception! You even woke up one morning this month with soaking wet PJ footies because you were sucking on your toes through your jammies. Ha! I'm wondering if you're using your toes as a teether when you don't have a toy. Even though we don't see any signs of teeth popping through, you sure are chewing on your footsies a lot!
We had quite a few fun outings this month and as always, you tagged along without making a sound. We went to the Cleveland Browns stadium for "Family Day," to see family in Warren, to the Akron Zoo, to Chuck E. Cheese, to meet up with friends (including Bella, who is just a month older than you!) at a park in Canton, to COSI, to the Columbus Zoo, to the lake, to the Great Lakes Science Center, to the Cleveland Zoo and to some playgrounds in and around Brecksville. You LOVE riding in the stroller and you still enjoy being in the Moby Wrap. We are so fortunate that you travel well!
You're reaching for everything now from toys to your bottle. You even hold your own bottle some during feedings, though you are still inconsistent in doing this. You also want to grab the spoon when I'm feeding you cereal. When I do let you have it you don't know what to do with it!
You're more and more observant with each passing week. I caught you looking from side to side in the car one evening when it was just you and I driving to a friend's house. I think you were looking for your big sisters who are usually sitting on either side of you!
You still are drawn into the TV when it's on, though you're more interested in everyone and everything else going on around you--toys, people, etc. You'll stop what you're doing and notice the TV at funny times though, as if you understand something that was said or you don't want to miss out on a part of a cartoon. Our TV isn't on much during the day and we're out and about a lot anyway, so I don't worry that you like to look at it sometimes when it is on.
You no longer like to be left alone. You definitely notice when everyone leaves a room and you're the only one left. You're used to being surrounded by your sisters, Mommy & Daddy, and you have grown to love the constant attention you get. So if you end up all alone in a room, you immediately cry. We're learning that we have to keep you in whatever room the action is in and then you're as content as can be.
You're interacting not only with your sweet looks and sounds, but also by blowing raspberries back and forth with us. I will blow them and then you blow them back. So fun to socialize with you in this way!
You've had the chance to interact with a few other babies your age / size this month and acted so cute with them. You laid on a blanket with both Bella, who was born about a month before you and Annie, who is six weeks older than you, at different times. You made all sorts of cute sounds and faces to get their attention. You are going to be a social butterfly just like your mommy and your sisters, and I hope you always call Bella and Annie your friends since their mommies are my good friends!
You sat up with support from your boppy pillow for the first time this month and you loved it. You played with some toys while you were sitting and Mommy was able to get a few things done nearby.
Another first this month--you got into the kiddie pool with your big sisters! Uncle Seth and Mommy put you into the pool at Grammy Pammy's house. You enjoyed some splashing around with Jaden and Sienna, and tired yourself out. I don't want to wish time away, but I can hardly wait for next year when you'll be toddling around in the kiddie pool alongside your two best friends who are also your sisters.
Somewhat like being in the kiddie pool with your big sisters, you also got your first bath with them! I put you in your baby tub in our big master bathtub and then they got in with you. You had fun watching them while you all got sudsy together!
You got to meet Grandma Lulu and Uncle Todd this month; they loved you from the minute we arrived at their house. Lulu held you a lot and you took her in. You'll never know how happy it made her that you let her hold you so much and you were happy as a clam the whole time.
You are still our "beach baby" for sure and love to be outside on warm days, but you don't like to be too hot. You get fussy when you're hot and sweaty, so we have to keep you perfectly balanced--warm, but not too warm :)
You are still very smiley and happy like you've always been, but you have your daily "fussy time." We're not really sure why as it isn't at a consistent time each day. It's sort of no rhyme, no reason. I hope it's either a sign that a tooth is on it's way or that it's something you'll grow out of. I'm grateful though that 90% of the time you're perfectly content.
We just got your high chair out and cleaned up for you to sit in. Not only can you eat your cereal in your big girl chair now, but you can play with some toys during dinner time and be right with the rest of the family. You love this since you want to be with us all the time!
Happy 5 Months to the sweetest little baby we could imagine. As your Mommy I am so grateful you're mine and I love spending each and every minute with you. Thank you for all of the joy you bring to my heart and for brightening each of my days with your smiles!
