Country Lights
Exactly one week ago (gosh, where did the time go?!?!) we went to Lake Farmpark for the annual Country Lights exhibit. This real working farm is a part of the extensive Cleveland area metroparks and if you've been keeping up with our family over the past few months, you'll recall that we last visited this farm for Sienna's 3rd birthday.
At Christmastime Country Lights is presented to sold-out crowds. It includes seeing all of the farm animals, a special holiday horse show, seeing beautiful lights on a horse-drawn wagon ride, making a wooden toy with "Santa's" elves, sitting on Santa's lap for photos and more. At about $28 for our family, it's worth every penny because we take our annual Santa photo at Country Lights on our OWN camera and always get an even better photo than the mall photographers can take! Plus it's a night filled with memory-making, holiday fun.
Our first stop was to see the baby calf that was born just a week before we last visited:
Remember when I shared that one of the mama cows had gotten loose that September day? Well they were all tied up and resting this time--thank goodness!
We grabbed some snacks and headed out to see the lights via horse-drawn wagon. The lights were beautiful!
We hopped off the wagon at the "Well Bred Shed" where we watched a funny horse show, the girls took a pony ride and we got to see rabbits, turkeys, chickens and sheep.
Next, we got in line for Jaden and Sienna to make their wooden toys with Santa's elves. These elves, who work on a volunteer basis, are very much "in character" and are so friendly with the children. Jaden and Sienna both could literally spend all night building toys and pass on all of the other farm fun, but fortunately each child is limited to one toy. They have about 40 different items to choose from and this year Jaden made a train while Sienna made a castle.
After building the toys there are painting and glitter stations, both of which we hit before leaving that area. The girls brought home colorful, glitter-covered creations!
Our final stop was to see Santa, who like his elves on site acts perfectly in character. He drilled the girls a little bit about their good or bad behavior and they were quite honest actually! He made sure they knew they needed to be brushing their teeth at least twice a day and told them to listen to their mommy and daddy all the time--woohoo, preach it Santa! ha!
We all jumped in for the Santa photo for the first time this year. In years past it's just been the girls or me with the girls, so I wanted Scott to get in there too. We didn't plan to match--in fact Scott came straight from work and we didn't even know what he was wearing--but our coordinating attire made the photo even more adorable!
After our Santa visit we were all tired and had seen most everything there is to see there. This tradition of ours, running 3 years strong and counting, was once again a success. Everyone had a great time!
More December photos and stories to come this weekend I hope...that is, if I get the laptop I asked Santa for and can access the internet from my comfy couch :)
