The first day of school
Last Monday was Jaden's first day back to school. She is working on her second year of Children's House so that next year she is all ready for Kindergarten / Extended Day (as Montessori calls it).
Jaden was up extra early and really excited to get to school. She has the same teacher as last year and many of the same children in her class. She kept talking about how she was excited to see her best friend Eva and though we didn't mention it before school, we knew that Eva's parents had decided to send her to a school closer to their home. We didn't want to spoil Jaden's excitement and make the first day drop-off difficult, so we decided to let her figure that out as the day went on.
I wasn't sure about our decision not to tell Jaden about Eva, but it turned out to be the best way for her to find out. She had a wonderful time at school that day, was only a little nervous, and after school was over we talked about how her friend hadn't been there and why. Jaden has plenty of other wonderful little girls in her class to become best friends with this year and we'll still get her together with Eva a few times so that they can play.
Scott and I were looking back at last year's first day of school photos and were not only amazed at how much Jaden has grown up over the past 365 days or so, but also that last year she was wearing a jacket on her first day while this year it was over 90 degrees outside and we all were wearing sleeveless shirts!
As thrilled as Jaden is to be back in school, our entire family is loving this long 3-day weekend! Not having to rush out the door each morning has been wonderful, and I'm glad we chose to just stay home because traveling has become rough on this preggie mama. With the next two days hopefully we'll get the rest of our house ready to list for sale and also have time to relax before a crazy first week of September!
